This paperwork has the purpose to present, based on Arendts thought, that animal laborans provides the conditions for the emergence and consolidation of Totalitarianism. This happens because according to Arendt, in modern age there is a degeneration of politics and dissolution of the limits between public and private space, leading to social sphere. What is considered here as a degeneration of politics is an imbrication of the boundaries between political life and biological life, public and private, and freedom and liberation. This happens when men are no longer interested in public and collective subjects, and the only thing that matters to them is the satisfaction of their own biological needs. In this process, the labor is glorified, which conducts to the victory of animal laborans; in other words, there is the emergence of social sphere and the dilution of the classes into masses. The hypothesis defended here is that the totalitarianism was only possible because it has its basis in the victory of animal laborans. With the purpose of showing the specificity of totalitarianism, the first part of this work will stablish that the theory of action is a starting point to determine the scope of politics. In the second chapter, the alienation and the victory of animal laborans will be analyzed, with the objective to indicate which elements in them are sustained by totalitarianism. In the last chapter, the elements that make totalitarianism a very particular phenomenon will be approached with the aim of showing that totalitarianism has the modern mass society as an important basis for its origination
