Resumo: The purpose of this dissertation is to analyze the work Tudo é rio, based on the assumptions of the Mimetic Theory, developed by the French theorist René Girard. We chose to talk about Tudo é rio because the narrative is built from many human conflicts. Carla Madeira produces a dense novel, which makes use of feelings such as exacerbated jealousy, veiled envy and has scenes whose characters range from ideals/models to dehumanization. As a methodological guideline, we adopted the bibliographic research of a descriptive and reflective nature, considering what has been published about the Mimetic Theory, from Deceit, Desire and the Nove (2009), René Girard's best-known work, to works such as: Violence and the Sacred (1990), The Scapegoat (2004), The Unknown Voice of the Real (2002), The Criticism in the Underground (2011a), Dostoyevsky: From the Double to Unity (2011c), The Sacrifice (2011d) and The Tragic and the Pity (2011e). As well as texts by Golsan (2014), Kirwan (2004) and Vinolo (2012) critics of Girardian works and a 2023 study, by author Maira Rúbia Miguel, entitled The resentment and the sacred in René Girard. The survey is divided based on the following parameters. Reflections on the Happily Ever After cliché, basic concepts about the Mimetic Theory; going through an approach to contemporary literature, aspects of the production of the author Carla Madeira, approach to plot and mimetic analysis of the novel Tudo é rio. The analyses allowed for highlighting the mechanisms through which the mimetic processes responsible for triggering violence in the novel occur, as well as the possibility of the character Dalva recognizing this mechanism, for instance, who is, at a certain point in the narrative, responsible for containing the mimetic escalation.
