Resumo: This research addresses the history of the Civil-Military Dictatorship in Maranhão through the trajectory of the activist Maria Aragão and investigates the teaching method that the Centro de Ensino Maria José Aragão uses to discuss this scenario in the classroom, given the scarcity of regional histories in textbooks. The goal of this work is to investigate the Civil-Military Dictatorship in Maranhão and insert it into History classes at the Centro de Ensino Maria José Aragão through didactic comic books, based on the trajectory of the political leader Maria Aragão. Initially, we discuss the Civil-Military Dictatorship in the State, starting with a brief history regarding the establishment of the 1964 coup in Brazil. Subsequently, we mention the political transition in Maranhão that covers the period from Vitorino's government to that of José Sarney’s. Still in this topic, we talk about social movements in a dictatorial scenario. The third section is dedicated to the trajectory of the activist Maria José Aragão, before and during the 1964 dictatorship. In the fourth section, we approach comics are as a possibility to tell unknown stories, discussing memory, forgetfulness, and power linked to knowledge and local history. Also in this section, we emphasize the consequences of comics, their insertion in education, and the importance of this tool in teaching history. In the fifth section, we describe the research, methodology, CE Maria José Aragão, its surroundings, and the results of interviews and questionnaires. This section also contains the details of the educational product. To support the research, we consulted the following main bibliographical sources: Moreira (2015), Cabral (2006), Foucault (1987), (1989), Circe (2008), Vergueiro (2014), and Rama (2014).
