This is a study on the practical of Social Assistant, in Programs of STD/HIV/AIDS in the city of São Luis/MA, having as reference an analysis of the epidemic of AIDS as problem of world-wide scope, the peculiarities of the epidemic in Brazil, and as well as the construction of the national policies and its unfoldings in the Maranhão, privately in São Luis. We detach the profile epidemiological of the illness in the country, its demands in relation to the contamination and the insertion of the Social Service. Contextalive and configures the practical professional in the universe of the Units of Health of the city, that directly act with Program DST/HIV/AIDS giving emphasis to the daily action of the professional, having as intervention support, the technique of the advisement, instrumental operating essential for the development of the prevention actions, diagnosis and treatment in the Program in all country.
