Resumo: The objective of this thesis is to present results of the evaluation of the implementation of the Social Assistance Policy in the State of Maranhão, focusing on management and financing, with regard to the following dimensions: management process; participation and social control; financing process. The time frame of this study refers to the period from 2016 to 2023. The SUAS consolidation process was abruptly interrupted after the 2016 Coup. The Unified Social Assistance System – SUAS experiences a setback with the withdrawal of resources and precarious management, such as Constitutional Amendment No. 95, which instituted the New Fiscal Regime that provides for the freezing of spending on social policies. The method that guided this study was based on the historical-dialectical perspective. The procedures used were: bibliographic research; document analysis; secondary data collection; conducting semi-structured interviews with managers, technicians and counselors in the municipalities of São Luís, Santa Rita and Anajatuba. We understand that the 2016 Coup negatively affected the management and financing of the Social Assistance Policy, with a drastic reduction in financial resources, a decrease in participation and social control, precariousness of services and loss of service coverage for users.
