Resumo: This work aimed to promote discussion on studies of the history of Africa, Africans and indigenous peoples in Brazil through the art of Terreiro de Mina Pedra de Encantaria, located in Maranhão. The categories that supported the studies, specifically Afro- Brazilian religion as collective memory, sacred space, forgetfulness, and social identity, are based on the writings of Halbwachs (1990), Pollak (1989; 1982), Nora (1993), Eliade (2010), Godelier (2001), Paul Ricoeur (2007), Silva (2021) and Conduru (2007;2020). From the biggest party in the liturgical calendar that Terreiro promotes, we present the main symbolic aspects, aesthetics and art. With the support of ethnographic notes and participant observation, we demonstrate the relationship between aesthetics and religion in Afro-Brazilian art, dialoguing with authors who deal with school content and African religiosity. The work dialogues with Law No. 11,645/08, contributing to Afro-Brazilian art and aesthetics becoming content for discussion and training in school spaces.
