Resumo: The research searches to analyze the professional practice of social workers within the multiprofessional team of a health service that is a reference in the care of women victims of sexual violence in Teresina, Piauí. The study focuses on apprehending the situations that required the abortion provided for by law in the period from 2012 to 2016, highlighting the contributions and limits of social work professionals to affirm and drive access to women's rights. It addresses theoretical-conceptual and legal-legal contributions around sexual and reproductive rights, legal abortion as an integral part of these rights and as a social work struggle agenda. It directs the analysis on the construction and organization of legal abortion services in Brazil, especially in the reality of Teresina, Piauí. In the context of these public services, it includes Social Work as a health profession that meets this demand and contributes to the promotion of quality services from the perspective of law. This is a research with qualitative approach, whose instruments used for data production were document analysis, legislation and ordinances prepared by the Ministry of Health that guide and guarantee legal abortion, especially the Technical Standards: Prevention and Treatment of Resulting Disorders of Sexual Violence Against Women and Adolescents (1999, 2005 and 2012) and Humanized Attention to Abortion (2005 and 2011), as a guiding lens for visualizing the structuring of services in Teresinense’s reality. And semi-structured interview conducted with 7 professionals of the multidisciplinary team of a service specialized in the care of women victims of sexual violence after approval by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Maranhão. The results indicate that historically in Brazil, the structuring and organization of legal abortion services occurred slowly and gradually, as well as the services of Teresina. Although it has a larger organization regarding services aimed at the health care of women victims of sexual violence, legal abortion services have both public and internal invisibility in this type of service studied. The professionals pointed out as a professional contribution the recognition of the reception and qualified listening made by the Social Service professionals as one of the most important actions of care, since it is through this that women have access to initial information about their rights and lead concrete conditions for their care. Free and conscious decision about the interruption of pregnancy and as professional limitations the absence of a specific multidisciplinary team for the service, which causes a difficulty to debate the theme in question and to evaluate the service.
