Resumo: This research is centered on the effort to study the History of the city of Brejo, located in the State of Maranhão, from its material cultural heritage and its spaces of memories, identities and sociability, having as main objective the elaboration of a paradidactic book on the historical heritage. city's culture. The study on material cultural heritage intends to analyze how certain monumental spaces, such as churches, squares, mansions, buildings, serve as a basis for knowing and understanding the history of the city and, consequently, to demonstrate how the articulation between Heritage Education and History Teaching in Basic education has become an important tool for the development of historical learning. By articulating past and present, students will be able to think about their importance as historical subjects, understanding themselves with a substantial part in the social construction of their community, strengthening their local identity and, consequently, perceiving themselves as transforming agents of the History of their locality. By intertwining the Teaching of History with Heritage Education, the research will analyze the places of memories and spaces of sociability in the city as a stage for the production of school historical knowledge, developing, together with the students: a historical awareness, through a rescue of identities and of memories; and a sense of belonging in the different segments of society from the construction of connections between the places where they live and the production of historical knowledge. As a product of this work, we are proposing the construction of a paradidactic book on the cultural historical heritage that will serve as a subsidy for studies on the History of Brejo in basic education schools.
