Resumo: Maracatu Rural (baque Loose) is one of the most famous cultural performances in Pernambuco, which the cultural industry uses as one of the symbols of the State. This manifestation of popular culture emerged in the Zona da Mata Norte of this state as a symbol of the resistance of rural workers. In this sense, the present work aims to analyze how the maracatu manifestation gained shape and respect within the social and cultural perspective of the state of Pernambuco. More specifically, we aim to understand the political structure of sugarcane monoculture; learn about the roots of maracatu de baque livre; characterize the maracatu de baque Loose, and identify the challenges related to the permanences and ruptures of the maracatu manifestation. It is interesting to know that the desire to carry out this investigation was born from the realization that Maracatu Rural (Baque Loose) is one of the most important cultural manifestations in the state of Pernambuco, as it carries with it a whole history of struggle and resistance of a people who, throughout throughout its history, it fought for its social and political rights through music and the art of which it is rooted in its genesis. However, there are also significant challenges to the perpetuation of this cultural expression, especially in the context of Pernambuco. In this way, in this research we will use the thinker Michel Certeau (2014) to think about the daily lives of rural workers within this cultural movement, so important for the State of Pernambuco in general and for the city of Nazaré da Mata (PE). From this perspective, we carried out a survey of historiography to think about culture through the texts of Davis (1990), Geertz (1989), Buker (2010), Canclini (2019), Bauman (2012) and Bakhtin (2010), as they explore in a broad perspective on the concept and impact of culture in different social contexts. We will also discuss the concept of subalternity from Gramsci (1986) since he was one of the precursors of this concept. To analyze the proposed theme, we will use texts by Guerra-Peixe (1980), Medeiros (2005) and Vicente (2012), because these were also the first to discuss maracatu. This is research with a qualitative approach and of an exploratory nature, which has as its corpus the maracatu de baque Loot from the state of Pernambuco, which will be investigated from a social and cultural perspective.
