Resumo: Although religion is considered a system of ideas, its practices produced in diferente emergency conditions suffer displacements in the course of historical time. Having as a starting point the analysis of the religious discourse in a small city of Maranhão, this paper proposes thinking about the experiences linked to religiosity as discursiveness. The scenery is Codó-Ma, known as the „capital of macumba‟. In that regard, this paper proposes an archeogenealogical analysis, in order to investigate how religion was constituted, historically and discursively, as an identity of the city and the effects of meaning over time, following the construction of its truths, with its continuities and discontinuities inside the file. Therefore, methodologically, it was select a corpus of 6 statements within the archive that constitute the religiosity of the Codó as an object, distributed in two enunciative series, namely: Codó, city of Macumba; Codó, City of God. Taking as a theoretical contribution the Discourse Analysis of the French line from the reflections of Michel Foucault, regarding his archeogeneology, and the notions of enunciation, archive and truth, that one allowed us to excavate the conditions of emergence of the religious discourse about and of the city of Codó and the transformations in enunciative positions. It will be done also a theoretical articulation with the field of investigation of the Social Sciences, taking into account that the notion of memory will also be central in this work. In this analyses, it resorted to clippings from newspapers, books, the city portal, the discursive object is inscribed in a domainof memory of statements about religiosity. It was demonstrate, with this, that the religiosity of African matrix is representative of a discursive identity memory of the city; that the representative description of the city is still linked to discrimination and inferiority of religions of African origin; and that there is a movement towards the construction of another (new) identity memory for the city that re-updates the vision of demonization of religions of African origin and is based on the hegemonic Christian religions as true religiosity.
