Resumo: This study aims to investigate the innovations applied in the public sector, starting with the relationship between knowledge, ideas and innovation, becoming a competitive advantage for organizations, following with a cataloging and analysis of the types of innovations in the public sector, ending with a case study in the Post about what kinds of innovations used by this company. Analyzing the articles realize the importance of knowledge management, idea management and innovation for the development of organizations, as well as the importance of knowing how to identify the different types of innovations in the literature. Clearly the little attention given to research on innovation in the public sector and the strong relationship between knowledge, ideas and innovation, as well as the recommendation that more research be conducted on the types of innovations for the public sector. Finally, we used a case study involving field research, desk research, participant observation and interviews with key actors working at the Post Office, specifically the Southern Regional Center of Mines - 08 based in Varginha MG, with 87 branches, being the research population, and a sample of 40 agencies that Regional. Through research top-down innovation of the type management it was evident with the absolute majority of the innovations with national origin as well as in item relevant aspects of innovation in the Post an absolute majority of the responses requested that employees who implement innovations are more ears.
