Resumo: |
The lack of qualified professionals in the supply chain and the minimal attention devoted to logistical planning within the public health institutions are notorious. Faced with this problem, it was proposed a change in the drug storage system of a hospital pharmacy of a public institution specialized in maternal and child health in the city of Goiania, the state capital of Goias, Brasil, using some studies about total quality management and logistics. The research was conducted between october 2012 and september 2013 and it was chosen an intervention project to transform the reality experienced and enhance the use of material and human resources. The operations of the project were: situational analysis, stock sanitation, fixed address of storage area, change of dispensing area layout, preparation of SOP, the pharmacy professional team training and evaluation. The variables chosen were the nonstandard activities, named nonconformities, and divided into four subtypes, all potentially leading to product waste and endangered patient’s safety. An initial data collection was performed, and another at the end of the intervention, the initial sample (T0) was composed of 223 medicines whereas the final sample (Tf) contained 251 medicines at dispensing sector. In the evaluation, these samples were compared using spreadsheet to verify the reduction of variables of non-compliance, as well as elaborate an indicator to measure. The results showed a reduction of two variables among the four types of non-conformities raised and there was no significant change in the indicators. Through statistical tests Z and P-value was possible to verify data reliability and the relationship with the loss of medication by their expiration dates. The development of activities and completion of certain operations in the intervention project turned possible the storage process improvement and correct dispensing of medicines, working respectively for optimization of health care resources and patient safety. Thus, changes in the drug storage system proved to be applicable and relevant and turned into benefit to public service, increasing the possibility of assistance to users and improving the quality of care, and therefore extremely useful in the context of public health. |
