Resumo: The waterway modal is a plausible investment alternative for cargo transportation in the Country (Brazil) and in the State of Goiás, because it presentes a reduction in transportation costs. In this work, we analyzed the Tietê-Paraná waterway with a focus on the Port Complex of the municipality of São Simão. The main objective of this research was to analyze the functions of this important waterway for the agribusiness logistics in Goiás. The main objetives of the reserch are: diagnose the fluvial transport and intermodality in the context of grain circulation and the formation of networks; to characterize the Tietê-Paraná waterway and the São Simão Port Complex in order to identify its influence for the agribusiness in Goiás; and understand the problems / conflicts in relation to the installation and management of the waterway, as well as the actors and sectors benefited to the detriment of others. The methodological procedures were based on literature review related to transport networks and their functions, as well as the role of the waterway, its history of installation and use. In addition, the research was based on the collection of secondary and primary data, through research in publications of official bodies (ANTAQ and IBGE) and the realization of the field; which allowed a general diagnosis of the Port of São Simão and the mapping of the role played by this "node" in the Tietê-Paraná waterway. It was possible to identify the logistic importance of the waterway, especially for certain sectors - notably the agribusiness in Goiás - and the strong relationship between the transport network / waterway and the national territorial dynamics.
