Resumo: This thesis presents the action-research undertaken along with a group of teacher-training students from a University in Goiás attending an English Didactics and Practice Course as part of their curriculum for the second semester of 2004. After an appreciation of the federal documentation regulating Licentiate parameters and a dialogue with authors whose writings reflect an education for freedom, Teacher Training Practice (Estágio Supervisionado) is then presented taking into account students’ oral statements and the linguistic-pedagogical demands of being foreign language teachers. In this dialogue three considerations are underlined: 1. The search for a concept of formation which prioritizes what is human and surpasses pragmatic reasons for submission to the Market, Capital and having over being. 2. The desire for a concerted building of a University, committed to academic and scientific excellence, which faces up to and overcomes its own dogmatism and ostracism. 3. The development of an autonomous knowledge extending to social practice, guaranteeing quality of life for citizens, which sustains its natural and ontological reason in the search for the utopia of ethics in educational praxis.
