The aim of this study was to know the condition and self - perception in oral health, the use of dental services, and oral health impacts in adolescents of Instituto Federal Goiano - Campus Iporá, and from this knowledge to plan actions and services in the institute. It is a cross-sectional study performed during 2016, with 156 students from 15 to 19 years. Demographic, economic, and referenced oral morbidity data, service utilization, oral health self-perception and oral impacts on daily performance were collected. To evaluate oral health conditions, we used DTMF index, necessity for dental caries treatment and CPI. Descriptive analysis variables were performed through their absolute and relative frequencies. The mean DMFT was 1.97, highlighting restored component (1.26); in 43% adolescents, some periodontal alterations were observed; regarding self-perception of oral health, 46.1% considered they need dental treatment at the time; 20% reported dental pain in the last 6 months. The main impacts on daily activities were eating (59.6%), oral hygiene (16.7%) and speaking (14.7%). In summary, although student present low prevalence of dental caries and need low complexity treatment, more than two thirds of young people reported some impact on their dental health related daily life. Thus, it is necessary to promote oral health, aiming at minimizing the harm caused by the disease, improving adolescents’ quality of life. |
