Resumo: This research is part of the theme of public policies for sustainability. In this context, we seek to outline strategies for operationalizing public policies aimed at sustainable development in the Nascentes do Rio Vermelho/GO Environmental Protection Area (APA). The APA has an area of 176 thousand hectares, located in the Cerrado biome – Northeast of the state of Goiás –, more precisely in the municipalities of Buritinópolis, Damianópolis, Mambaí and Posse. At the same time that it locally presents environmental and ecotourism potential, due to the diversity of fauna and flora, scenic beauty, waterfalls, caves and lakes present in the region; This territory faces important challenges regarding its socio-environmental development. Public policies that seek to harmonize social, environmental, ethical issues, among others, with the economic dimension, are important instruments to overcome the gaps found between the potential and threats identified in the aforementioned Environmental Protection Area. In view of this, the objective of this research is to analyze and present strategies to operationalize the main public policies that induce development in the Environmental Protection Area (APA) of the Nascentes do Rio Vermelho. To this end, an exploratory research was carried out to identify such public policies and, through Bardin's thematic classification, the insertion and potential of the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR), National Strengthening Program were analyzed - together with key agents and local leaders. of Family Agriculture (PRONAF), Biodiversity Minimum Price Guarantee Policy (PGPM-Bio), Food Acquisition Program (PAA) and National School Meal Program (PNAE) to promote sustainable development. Although the importance of the instruments analyzed as possible inducers of development is recognized, the results indicate that they are not being appropriated locally by farmers. Therefore, it is essential to expand access for family farmers in the Nascentes do Rio Vermelho APA to these programs. To this end, it is recommended to intensify interactions between public agents and the local community, with the aim of optimizing their adherence to the aforementioned programs, optimizing processes and enhancing the capacity to promote local development.
