Resumo: | This dissertation aims to discuss and analyze Cancer, a little-studied film by Glauber Rocha, the most well-recognized Brazilian filmmaker. It also proposes to point out elements of this film, both formal and plastic, still not explored by criticism. We believe that the majority of the existing analyses does not consider the most evident aesthetic potencies in Cancer, triggered by certain formal resources used in the film, precious to the experimental cinema and proximate to avant-garde procedures employed by plastic artists. Therefore this research proposes to understand and analyze the cinematographic mechanisms by means of tools provided by the theories of experimental cinema, as well as by the dialogue established between Cancer and other artistic manifestations, namely the Brazilian plastic arts avant-garde and Hélio Oiticica s works from the 1960s |
