Resumo: This work is a study of two cinematographic adaptations of the novel The Crime of Father Amaro, of Eça de Queirós through the exam of some scenes that we considered embematics in the sense of express clearly fundamental aspects of the character of the character who gives name to the novel: Father Amaro. This novel was length worked for the author, and, had three versions, each one publicated in 1875, 1876 and 1880. For we perform this dissertation, we utilize concepts connected to Textual Critic, like the text and textual fidelity, and for the study of adaptation of novels into film, like: transmutation, transcodification and traduction between literary and cinematographic languages. We could verify that, in what concerns Amaro, a long of the three versions of the novel builds by the author is, clearly, a process of humanization of the character that will also be one of the examples of the route of distance, of the writer, of the Naturalism. In the adaptations, we verify, the opposite process, which means, there is an dehumanization of the character
