This research attempts to contribute to a better understanding of the enterprising phenomenon located at the base of the economic and social pyramid in Brazil, to investigate the behavior, motivations and characteristics of the entrepreneurs of lanhouses located at the Community of Rocinha, as well as to identify and describe the types of businesses and the kinds of customers who make use of these services. Rocinha is a community endowed with singularities and many contrasts. Through an investigative survey that uses a structured questionnaire divided into five sections, it is expected, in spite of the limitations of the method, to contribute to the knowledge and debate concerning the entrepreneurial phenomenon of lan-houses which are driven by the enterprising character of individuals who give their considerable contribution to the development of the country as they offer new services to people with social vulnerability. The conclusion is that the enterprising characteristics of the lan houses´ owners surveyed converge to what the established literature suggests. In this way, these entrepreneurs created their businesses encouraged by the opportunity they visualize and developed typical behaviors of this kind of entrepreneur.
