Resumo: | This dissertation aims at investigating the practices of production and representation of identities, articulated with the globalization dynamics. The objects of study are the bands Manimal and Casaca, young urban groups inserted in the circuit of production and consumption of pop music, which translated the elements of the traditional culture from Espírito Santo into the media culture. Our fundamental theoretical axes are the notion of identity as a process in constant transformation (Stuart Hall) and as project, memory and field of possibilities (Gilberto Velho). The stud y develops from the hypothesis according to which the central arena for the representation and acknowledgment of discourses of identity is the media communication. Thus, it is considered that the musical-message form produced by these groups the congopop articulates with the media industries and the public agents of culture financing in order to assure visibility, perform and communicate their discourses and images and, at the same time, dispute resources and symbols. The study investigates the process of cultural translation from congo to congopop and points at the multiple possibilities of identities triggered by these groups, bearing as a scenery of dispute and staging the phonographic market and the field of printed journalism specifically musical criticism. As a frame of this process, we point at the collective and political effort for the production of positive images of the place from which these groups speak the Espírito Santo consolidating in its figures a hegemonic discourse on the valorization of the local culture |
