Resumo: | Entrepreneurship is a natural characteristic of Brazil. The number of micro and small businesses started in the country grows significantly each year. On the other hand, a great amount of enterprises are closed down every year. Aimed at guiding entrepreneurial initiatives, enterprise incubators have been created, mainly inside universities, institutions which are recognized as reference centers for the generation and propagation of information and knowledge. Within such incubators, small businesses can be created and developed. In order to analyze the contribution of the incubator for the performance of micro and small businesses that have gone through the incubation process, a case study was carried out comprising companies from the Technology-Based Business Incubator (IBT), which is connected to the Regional Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer (CRITT) and belongs to the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF). By means of an exploratory qualitative research, respondents were incubated entrepreneurs and graduates from the 2003-2007 period, besides the acting manager of the incubator, generating major data intersections resulting from the study. The results demonstrate relevant points for the success of companies and point out aspects that deserve special attention. These results will provide the parameters for new entrepreneurs, enabling the analysis of the incubation process, and serve as a reference for improving the performance of IBT-incubated companies and the incubator itself. |
