Resumo: Actually, the use of computer science on education it s one of the main factors towards the growing and dissemination of the innovative technology, as it allows the informations preservation, treatment and diffusion. It can be said that on the graduation teaching schools, the üse of a computer in a classroom in nowadays, means to be one of the greatest symbols of the modem age, assuming an extremely important role for the teaching, for the researches and for the extension. The introduction of the computer within the Brazilian schooling system occurred during the 70 s decade and since then it had been transforming the education in the country. The objective of this lecture was to evaluate the use of the computer science and the public network (Internet), as well as to know how those two elements have been used by the teaching staff and student bodies as well. This search arose from a case study made by one graduation schooling in the County of Belford Roxo, Rio de Janeiro State, the Associação Brasileira de Ensino Universitário (ABEU Brazilian University Teaching Association). The instruments used were reserved questions, complemented by bibliographic surveys. The outcome of the surveys suggests that the computer science and the public network are used by the evaluated group and that they recognize the educational and humanist importance towards the technology s utilization. It was also evidenced that the institution doesn t have enough equipment, instailation and experts, capable to fi.ilfihl the academic demands on information technology and Internet. In order to minimize this problem, a few steps were suggested to ABEU, such as: enlarge the computer science labs, to strengthen teaching staff towards constant training and/or graduation in the computer science arca and, to hire experts in the field, capable to offer the required support to the institution s teaching staff and student bodies. Besides the use of computer science and the public network by ABEU s teaching staff and student bodies in the graduation courses, this work has evidenced that the technology s potential it s still, many times, badly used
