The conformity assessessment plays an important role in the modern world and global market. Nowadays, is more and more frequent the establishment of technical barriers to inhibit the assess of products to the markets. The Brazilian society has been demanding Inmetro the establishment of conformity assessment programms in a growing scale, so much with relationship to the number of programs, as with relationship to the complexity of the same ones. In this work was made a comparative study among the Brazilian System of Conformity Assessment and the system adopted in the European Community of conformity assessment of regulated products, considering the safety's requirements to the health, to the environment, to the property and the consumers' defense. The objective is to compare the system adopted in Brazil with that adopted in the European Union, being verified the convergences and identifying the differences, notedly those that can be adopted in Brazil, seeking the improvement of our system, being considered the process of continuous improvement. The study of the model adopted by the European Union for the conformity assessment shows several points common with the Brazilian model. The Brazilian model, as well as the European, adopted, for conformity assessment, the theoretical beginnings and methodologies consecrated in international normative documents. The basis of the Brazilian System does not differ a lot of the European model. The technical and conceptual basis and of the Brazilian system, as well as in the European system, are those established and practiced internationally. The differences are mainly, in the implementation. The study here accomplished points for the need of fittings in Brazilian System to turn it the more effective and capable of reaching the purposes when of the creation of Sinmetro.
