The thought of the french historian Fernand Braudel (1902-1985) has several interpretations and differents influences. One of these refers to the Paul Vidal de la Blache s Human Geography (1845-1918), neglected by their studious geographers and historians indiscriminately. This thesis emphasizes its three major books (La Méditerranée et le Monde Méditerranéen à l'époque de Philippe II [1949 e 1966], Civilisation Matérielle, Économie e Capitalisme: XV-XVIII Siècles [1979] e L'Identité de la France [1986]) and it discuss the Geography s epistemological role in his historiography. The hipotesis of this work is that the Geography was crucial to the development of inovations in its historical writing mainly the longue durée. At the same time, trying to construct a critical intersection between the École Française de Géographie and the Annales legacy, we will rethink the most important side of the relations between the history of geographical thought and the french historiography in the XXth Century.
