This study describes the application of the conceptual and methodological basis of studies of informal social networks (RSI) to understand the contribution of informal social networks in the development of work in confined spaces in a large company in the energy sector in Rio de Janeiro, particularly a platform at sea. In this case study, data analysis involved two steps: informal social networks intraorganizacionais (workflow, information, engagement and motivation), and the articulation of this phenomenon with the confined working environment. The mapping of networks using the software UCINET allow analysis of macrostructural networks addressing characteristics such as size, density, diameter, geodesic distance, and a relational analysis, focused on the identification of the actors who play important roles in the informal structure and its connections and complements with qualitative data from interviews show that the factors relevant to good working environment and the flow of relationships. The results showed that actors of the formal structure of the organization in some of the mapped network drives, did not occupy a prominent position in the informal structure and personal characteristics of the actors can give them power independent of the provision in the organizational structure. They highlight the methodology of network analysis as a powerful tool for understanding the informal structure and its influence in the daily formal organization, reveals a key player in improving processes the transactional content flows, as well as problems and opportunities in the informal networks, also points out, some important care using the methodology of ARO in organizations
