Resumo: In spite of numerous studies related to knowledge management and Model Organizational Management System, it is revealed some gaps in the research which propose themselves to connect to these two topics. It is observed that, if on one hand, the excellence management models are getting more prestigious among companies that look for improving organizational performance practices, capabilities, and results, on the other hand, management knowledge theories have been consolidated as an increasingly important element in competitiveness concept. This work investigates the use of knowledge management in its concepts, principles and processes in the field of management practices, based on questionnaires filled out by companies awarded in the 2009 cycle from Brazilian quality award and that, admittedly, use the Model Organizational Management System. In a first step, the study develops theoretical knowledge management and investigates how the knowledge management happens within the Model Organizational Management System. In a second step, based on field research, the study presents the perceptions of three companies awarded in the 2009 cycle of the National Quality Award, as for the use of Model Organizational Management System as a facilitator of knowledge management. Considering the results, it has been pointed out recommendations from Fundação Nacional da Qualidade with the objective to provide an alignment between the model and the needs of the companies which look for company excellence and some questions have been pointed out for further research in a deepest way.
