The increasing demand for a more sustainable world is increasingly pressing. The society calls for ethical business practices, transparent and socially and environmentally responsible. In this context, companies are seeking to meet their customers the best way possible, including showing the company s goals and results through the reporting of social and environmental responsibility. Thus, being tourism the fastest growing industry segment in the world, it could not fail to follow this trend. In 2006, through the Programa Bem Receber, the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Tourism in partnership with the Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas, created the norm NBR 15401 - Meios de Hospedagem Sistema de Gestão da Sustentabilidade Requisitos, which aims at increasing the competitiveness of lodging facilities small and medium enterprises, through good sustainable practices, and taking into consideration the economic, cultural and environmental impacts generated. Thus, this case study aims to provide theoretical and practical to small and medium-sized hotel companies interested in adopting the parameters provided by the norm. For such, a single, applied, empirical, descriptive, exploratory case study was realized, and data were collected by conducting a literature review, document analysis, semi-structured interviews and on-site observations.
