The present paper works as a second part of the academic conclusion paper at UERJ,for the Geography Department , in 2005.It aims to investigate the different conceptions of environment for a defined group of the population from São Gonçalo City,specifically for people who live in the neighborhood near São Gonçalo Shopping Rio. Several bibliographic references were used with the intention of indentifying the concept of environment, considering the inhabitants social usage of defined areas in the city, influenced by their life experiences with neighbors,family and close relatives. Consequently,this concept is questioned ,such as the influences of this shopping center,its symbolical acquisition by the local people and as a result, the different meanings of environment for them.
