Resumo: This thesis examines the contribution of the Human Resources area, considering the process of People Development, on the establishment of sustainable organizations, thus, aiming at proposing an assessing tool to evaluate the degree of the organization sustainability. This tool is part of a model of a people s development program focusing on a corporate sustainable way of management. The objective of this tool is to diagnose the degree of an organization sustainability considering three aspects: people, culture and leadership to develop later suitable contents to make professionals more aware of the need of sustainable practices on their daily working routine. The study examines how much people are engagement and their empowerment to create a sustainable business. This analysis is also made based on the competencies defined on the content of chapter Theoretical Foundation. Besides the employee analysis, the diagnosis intends to demonstrate the contribution of leadership and the cultural aspects on the process of learning and paradigm shift. For that, besides addressing themes such as Sustainability, People Development, Competencies, Organizational Culture and Leadership, the theoretical framework presents and analyzes, through literature research, models and methodologies available on the market to measure the organizational sustainability level. These models were the basis of this proposed instrument draft, in order to make a diagnosis. The research is characterized by a case study, and the diagnosis was applied in a manufacturing company. Finally, it is expected to make professionals more aware of sustainable issues and enable them to act in a business context which, because of global social and environmental pressures, has been demanding a more human, responsible and conscious way of management. This way, through people, we expect to contribute to the development of a more sustainable organization.
