Resumo: | The purpose of this study was to investigate in the light of Variationist Sociolinguistics, variation morphosyntactic absence/presence of the definite article before the possessive and anthroponyms Portuguese spoken in the city of Vitória (ES), in order to delimit, ultimately, the tendency capixaba to this morphosyntactic aspect, establishing it as (a) trace of linguistic identity within the national scene. We tried to understand what factors influence the alternation between presence and absence of the definite article before anthroponyms, in constructions like “totalmente diferente de Ø Isabela”/“tava tendo o casamento do meu tio Nim”, and possessives in statements like “mora Ø minhas tias... os meus tios...”. Taking as reference the works of Silva (1982, 1996a, 1996b) and Callou and Silva (1997), were selected for this sample, twenty interviews conducted by the Project PORTVIX (Portuguese spoken in the city of Vitoria/ES) with 20 capixabas speakers. The main results obtained through statistical processing of data in the program VARBRUL were generated in two separate steps. In the first stage of testing, with respect to anthroponyms, a total set of 300 instances and an overall percentage of application of the definite article in about 39%, the program identified four groups as the most significant in terms of probability, in following order of selection: the gender anthroponym, suprasegmental features, age and gender of the speaker. Regarding the context of possessive pronouns, in a total of 1016 events and a percentage of overall use of the article around 33%, the program selected groups of the absence/presence and type of preposition, possessive type and other shapes, nature of the possessed, educational level and gender of the speaker as the most significant. In general, the results indicate that, in terms of percentage of overall application use article, the capixabas of Vitória (ES) use less article than other regions of the country. This percentage was 39% in the context of anthroponyms and 33% in the context of possessive pronouns, which aligns the capital of Espírito Santo, in the context of anthroponyms, with Rio de Janeiro (43%). Moreover, in the context of the possessive, no reasonable comparison, given that it's pretty far removed from other brazilian cities scheduled so far: the cities of Recife and Salvador, which show the lowest rates are at around 60% versus 33% of the capital of Espírito Santo. Thus the tendency of the absence of the definite article seems to configure itself as a brand identity unaware in the capital of Espírito Santo. |
