Resumo: It analyses the politic and social aspects of the thought of the benedictine abbot Guibert of Nogent, (c. 1055- c. 1125). Personage not much known and prestiged in his time, Guibert left many written works, among them, that one with his personal memories: Monodies. Written in 1115, this work was shared in three distinct books. The absolutely personal character of his first part induced many modern researchers to call it De vita sua. With the violent uprising happened in 1112 in the commune of Laon in his mind, Guibert tried to understand the world beyond the walls of his monastery. To him, a place whose habitants were lost in sin, but they could be saved. When we analyze the incisive comments of Guibert about politics and society of Laon, we found in his narrative an implicit intention of teaching, through examples, the worths that he constructed during decades dedicated to the monasticism. Employing this experience and the politic and social relations established in Laon, the abbot Guibert of Nogent offered a beautiful witness that permit us to catch some glimpse aspects of that small university. Through his Christian eyes, we walked in a world in quite metamorphosis, but that kept the holy and the presence of God as incontestable constants in his daily.
