Resumo: Syphilis is an infectious disease caused by Treponema pallidum and has high rates of vertical transmission. The diagnosis of syphilis during pregnancy is simple and its screening is mandatory during prenatal care so that the outcome of congenital syphilis is avoided. The treatment for curing and reducing the burden of the disease is a known, simple, and cost-effective one. However, congenital syphilis continues to be highly prevalent, with a gradual increase in its incidence rates over the past years in the world, in Brazil, in Espírito Santo and in the state’s larger city, Serra. It is known that the incidence of congenital syphilis is extremely sensitive to the quality of prenatal care, but because it is a sexually transmitted infection, it brings a complexity of factors that hinder its control, which are behavioural or social factors, access to supplies and the organization of the work process in health services. The main objective of this work is to identify, from the perspective of healthcare professionals, the aspects that affect the production of care for pregnant women with syphilis and their partners, during prenatal visits, within the scope of Primary Care, in the municipality of Serra, Espírito Santo. This is an exploratory qualitative study. It is justified by the seriousness of the epidemiological scenario that presents itself in the municipality and aims to contribute with suggestions for content and more assertive approaches in training and courses within the scope of Permanent Education for healthcare workers with the theme of coping with congenital syphilis from the understanding aspects of the production of care by healthcare workers.
