Resumo: | The sheep and goats are gaining prominence in Brazil, making it an attractive alternative investment. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and risks associated with leptospirosis in sheep and goat flocks in the State of Espírito Santo, in a total of 24 herds with 737 animals. The technique used to determine the seroprevalence was the microscopic agglutination test (MAT), and the serovar Icterohaemorrhagiae was found in higher prevalence in both goats (97%) and sheep (78.26%). Aspects related to the creation were statistically analyzed using the Chi Square test in order to obtain the association between the variables. Factors such as the presence of wetlands, miscarriages and premature births were directly associated with the presence of leptospirosis in herds. There was found in the results that leptospirosis is present in the State of Espírito Santo, and is mainly associated with the breeding system and the frequency of abortions, interventions are needed to provide improvements in the sanitary control of livestock, contributing to the improvement of production in Espírito Santo goats and sheep |
