Resumo: The present project intends to understand and analyze the dissolution of the Aliança Renovadora Nacional (ARENA) party, in the state of Espírito Santo, at the end of the bipartisanship established in 1965 through the AI-2 by the Civil-Military Regime (1964-1985), resulted in a new institutional arrangement. In the state of Espírito Santo, the political forces a priori sought to remain cohesive in the new party, created to house the former members of ARENA, the Social Democratic Party (PDS); however, such cohesion was not possible, due to the fact that there were problems in the first election to assemble the ticket for the 1982 election, thus causing a split between the political group of Élcio Alvares and Eurico Rezende (both were once allies in the 70s, which resulted in both their terms for governor). With the end of bipartisanship, these groups that were internally disputing the PDS, after the Electoral College of 1985 founded the Liberal Front Party, in the case of Élcio Álvares alongside João Calmon, they carried out the split, took part of the PDS to this new party . The new dynamic posed by the New Republic made these individuals repeat what was done by the elites in the 64 coup, translating their discourse and political praxis into the new political context. The research will seek to understand this path taken by the PFL capixaba and its leaders, in contrast to what was done in the national PFL; while understanding the Espírito Santo electorate and its behavior at the beginning of the New Republic, as well as the population changes in the end of the 20th century in Espírito Santo soil, translating into electoral results. Therefore, it is to understand how this guarantor party of the New Republic will develop in Espírito Santo and with its local specificities that differentiate it from the national scenario.
