Resumo: The cultivation of intercropping in agroecological bases aims to link increased production, improved soil quality and diversification of healthy food. However, there are few studies aimed at assessing the effects of the cropping system in semiarid. Given the scarcity of information on the effects of these systems in this region two studies were conducted in Choró, Massapê, Quixadá and Tauá, in semiarid region of Ceará. In first study was evaluated the effects of this system on soil chemical characteristics; we selected 24 farmers in four counties to collect soil at three depths, 0-5, 5-10 and 10-30cm, under intercropping systems and in forested areas adjacent to these areas, which were used as standard for chemical properties evaluated. Were analyzed total soil organic carbon (SOC), pH, available phosphorus (P), Na+, K +, Ca + +, Mg + + and H+ + AL3+. For data analysis we used descriptive statistics and multivariate statistical technique. In the second research, to evaluate the agronomic performance of the component cultures of the intercrops agroecological, 16 (sixteen) arrangements were systematized.
