Resumo: |
The home composting developed in this paper aims to propose a simple operation method, bins and bulking agents (BA) appropriate for organic domestic waste in a practical way, resulting in a quality end product. In this experiment, we chose to test three kinds of bins: R1 (70L), R2 (45L) and R3 (135L), using as BA in process: grass (G), tree pruning (P) and sawdust (S). In all, 36 composters were mounted with combinations between BA and bins in triplicate, besides include control tests (C) which were used only household organic waste. The waste was daily added in layers, while they were generated. Samples analyzes were performed collecting in the lower region of the bins and, after that, in the upper region. This sampling was performed because the materials don’t mixed up. The monitored parameters were temperature, moisture content, pH (hydrogen potential), carbon/nitrogen ratio, electrical conductivity (EC), germination index (GI) and degree of polymerization (DP). It was possible to see that the kind of bin influenced the developed temperature. R3 stood out for developing high temperatures for a longer period; however, R1 achieved high maximum temperatures and its format overlap due to its ease operation. G stood out in relation to temperature and GP, registering values close to ideal in less time, but the system showed lower GI due to higher EC and presents anaerobic evidence without reversal. P and S were similar, although S values gave more satisfactory results. C showed negative characteristics with the most part of analysed parameters. In terms of final quality, were necessary 300 days, starting from the beginning of the process, to achieve the best results. About IN MAPA n. 25 in 2009, the products generated in lower region of bins were in accordance to the regulation in 90 days. Regarding the waste mass final reduction, it reached values around 83-98%, demonstrating the process capability in relation to the organic waste treatment. |
