Resumo: |
The technical efficiency is estimated for 36 energy distribution firms. Four methods were adopted: one parametric and three nonparametric. In the parametric method, the Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA), the Cobb-Douglas production function was used. The Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), the Free Disposal Hull (FDH) and the method developed by Martins-Filho and Yao (2004) are the three nonparametric methods adopted. It was seen that, the production set didn’t follow increasing returns to scale. It was concluded that, the firms of the Southeast region of Brazil were, on the average, more efficient than the others. The Martins-Filho and Yao’s (2004) method was most the adequate, since it requires less assumptions and has the characteristic of being a smooth estimator. |
