Resumo: |
This paper analyses the technical efficiency of states and regions of Brazil in the period 1985-1998. The methodological framework is based upon the concept ofproduction frontier, where a non-parametric model estimates technical efficiency through Data Envelopment Analysis technique. Relying on a technological leadership test it was established which region defines the technological referential of the country. In addition, Malmquists total productivity index has been performed to decompose the gains in productivity into two components: technical efficiency variation and technological variation. Baumol s testing has been conducted to verify whether there is convergence of productivity among Brazilian states or not. |
