Resumo: This study aimed to evaluate the training of health professionals (doctors, dentists and nurses) working in the Family Health Strategy (FHS) in the municipality of Caucaia (CE) according to the legal and conceptual aspects, highlighting the policy national Primary Care. The survey was conducted from November to December 2015 with 119 health professionals, 42% (n = 50) nurses, dentists 37% (n = 44) and 21% physicians (n = 25). The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire, separated into three parts: identification data, academic and information about the professional life (skills, abilities and responsibilities in the FHS). The collected data were stored in Epidata® 3.1 database and analyzed using the statistical package STATA 12.0. For categorical variables, simple descriptive statistics were performed (proportion), while for continuous / discrete central tendency measures were employed. For bivariate analysis, Pearson's chi-square test and Fisher's exact test were used, considering a 5% significance level. The results indicated that most health professionals were female, young adults (average 35 years), gazetted and good working time in the ESF (average 6.2 years). The average elapsed time of graduation and the last graduate was respectively 9.7 and 4.6 years. There was a predominance of professionals whose maximum degree of titration was specialization (especially in Health and courses for clinical specialties). 54.6% (65) of the participants were specialized in Health, Public Health and / or Public Health, and the improvement of the practice in the FHS considered the main reason for the search for this qualification. There was no statistical association (p> 0.05) between the completion of these courses and the fulfillment of the specific tasks of the ESF. It is concluded that Caucaia health professionals (CE), mostly feature oriented training for the ESF model. It is recommended a greater incentive to conduct courses with a focus on ESF to ensure a connection between work and training for all health professionals in primary care.
