Resumo: |
The health insurance market in Brazil has only grown over the past few years and some companies have grown significantly, organically and through acquisitions, t hey had also been listed on the Brazilian Stock Exchange. This work analyzes the behavior of market shares and the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI) in the health insurance marke t in Fortaleza city, between years 2011 and 2019. Will be presented a results comparison among the capital of Ceará State and Recife, Salvador and Teresina. In addition, two simulation s of mergers in the sector will also be carried out, considering the Fortaleza market and the Guide for Analysis of Acts of Horizontal Concentration prepared by the Administrative Council for Economic Defense. The Firm Theory and its consequences were applied to treat the data provided by the National Supplementary Health Agency, to base the analysis and to interpret the results. Notably at the national level, the representation of firms does not cause adverse competitive effects H owever, when Fortaleza is restricted, there is a large market concentration, in which there are t wo companies that together hold a share more than 70% of the health insurance market. At the local level, the supplementary health market presents concentrations that generate competit ive concerns. |
