Resumo: Considering the problem of the nursing attendance in Unit of Post-Anesthetic Recovery (UPAR), a very wide theme, we had an excerpt susceptible to investigation, having as the study object an instrument ofthe nursing attendance, built based on three concepts of Orlando's theory - the patienfs behavior, the nurse's reaction and action, added by the indicators of evaluation of Aldrete & Kroulik. The study had as objectives the construction of an instrument destined to the planning of nursing attendance offered to the patient in the phase of the awakening of the emergency anesthesia and its validation starting from the opinion of the nurses who works in the UPAR. It was developed in the Unit of Powder-anesthetic Recovery, which integrates the surgical block of a hospital of emergency of the city of Fortaleza - Ceará - Brazil, from May to October of 1998, by the author and seven nurses who are active in the respective unit. three different moments were considered for its execution: the construction, the application ofthe instrument in 138 patienst in the post-anesthetic phase and the interview with each participant nurse. The results evidenced the importance ofthe instrument proposed for the most qualified care, given to the patient of surgical emergency in the period post-anesthetic. Unanimously the nurses considered the instrument, a facilitative, rational and important element in the efficiency and effectiveness ofits actions of care, contributing to the definition of its function in that section. However, about the possibility of its implementation, the nurses presented unfounded depositions in face of the current conditions of UPAR, which was mentioned with greater emphasis, the excess demand, impeding an attendance of more qualified nursing. It is Worth to stand out, that the study contributed to wake up in the nurses the interest for the development of a new way ofpracticing the nursing, joing theory and practice, that interest was observed by the author during the application ofthe instrument.
