Resumo: In the present thesis, the relevance of glycerol is investigated as a driving agent in an the synthesis of zinc ferrite nanoparticles with particular physical properties, by means of a modified coprecipitation method. The studied materials include two series of zinc ferrite samples and its precursors obtained with or without glycerol throughout different stages during the synthesis process. The structural and morphological characteristics were evaluated by means of different techniques such as X-ray diffraction, Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy, scanning and transmission electron microscopy and thermal analysis. In addition, the oxidation products of glycerol were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography. In order to evaluate the magnetic properties of the ferrite nanoparticles, vibrating sample magnetometer measurements were performed. The obtained results indicates that the glycerol oxidation occurs at the second stage, leading to the partial dissolution and subsequent recrystallization of zinc ferrite phase, which also act towards formation of intermediate phases and the encapsulation of the formed crystals. The samples obtained by the coprecipitation modified method using glycerol showed better structural and morphological organization as well as important improvements of physical properties of zinc ferrite nanoparticles, evidencing the potential of this method in the synthesis of ferrites
