Resumo: |
Systemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH) is presented as a serious public health problem in Brazil and worldwide for its high prevalen ce and low rates of control, especially among the elderly. Thus, it is essential to develop educational interventions that increase the participation of the elderly hypertensive patients in the care process in order to improve their adherence to treatment. This study aimed at analysing the Culture Circle as a promoter of adherence and health literacy of the elderly with hypertension. Quasi - experimental study conducted with two groups: intervention group (IG) and control group (CG), with conduction of pre - te st and post - test. The study was held in two primary health care units, from January 2014 to January 2015 in the city of Picos - PI. The initial sample consisted of 145 elderly, 73 in IG and 72 in CG, but due to losses, 118 subjects concluded the study, 58 of IG and 60 CG. For data collection, it was used the SAH Treatment Adherence Questionnaire (QATHAS) and the Literacy Health (LS) assessment tool. The intervention consisted of four Culture Circles, which were carried out in the primary health care unit with participation of 60 elderly of the IG. Each circle was developed in five interdependent phases: reception, expression, questioning, synthesis and assessment. The ethical aspects of Resolution 466/12 were respected at all phases of the study. The elderly h ad an average of 70.3 (± 7.7) years of age and income of R$ 1577.7 (± R$ 2365.1). It was pred ominant in the sample: females , mulatto and married . After the Culture Circles in the IG, it was noticed a level change in the scale of SAH treatment adherence exp ressed by the increase in the percentage of the elderly in level 100, which went from 27.6% to 41.4%. In addition, there was significant difference in the mean score achieved by the elderly to answer the QATHAS after the Culture Circle. As for the LS level s, the conceptual level was prevalent in two groups before and after Circles. The IG performance showed improvement in functional and empowerment levels after the interventions, but when comparing the groups, IG presented better result than GC only at the conceptual level in the post - intervention period. GI was more expressive than the CG after participation in the Culture Circles in the following dimensions of the LS: understanding of information, ability to seek information, attitudes to results and socia l support. We conclude that the Culture Circle had a positive effect on adherence to treatment of SAH and LS of the elderly. |
