Resumo: This research is dedicated to the analysis of the film Peões (2004), directed by Eduardo Coutinho, from an approach centered on the presence, behavior and crossing of those we considered its three narrative pillars: the archive, the memory and the politics. We assume that these three instances of meaning permeate the entire film and are reaffirmed, in the testimony of each character, as driving agents of the encounter between the director, characters and the cinema apparatus. Our goal is to unveil the methods and procedures used specifically in Peões, which suggest the ways in which the film sought to bring cinema and history closer together based on the testimony and experience of anonymous people involved in the great workers' strikes in the ABC region between 1979 and 1980. For this, we see the archive as a trace of experience, an incomplete material that is always capable of generating new ways of seeing the past. The memory as a fluid and vital process for those who report and elaborate what is experienced in the individual and collective spheres. And the politics as an affirmative action in the struggle for what is fair, what triggers the union of thousands of people on the behalf of rights that are common to them and for the ethics involved in the approach to the historical experience through the perception of the losers. Our work methodology is based on the filmic analysis of Peões, with the promotion of profound discussions about the sequences of each character and on the narrative construction of the film as a whole. Therefore, we rely on the encounter between archive, memory and politics in the light of the encounters Coutinho used to promote with his characters and we propose a dialectical perception of this film that, throughout this research, will reveal the concrete ways in which it approaches another type of narrative and historical writing. A writing that manipulated (in the sense of handling, working with) by the experienced gaze of the director and collectively promoted by the cinema apparatus, demonstrates how cinema can approach the concrete world and elaborate it in a creative, coherent and cinematographic way.
