Resumo: |
Guarana (Paullinia cupana) is a prevalent fruit in the Amazon region, ecognized for its properties derived from its bioactive compounds. Its composition is rich in caffeine, being its most abundant bioactive substance containing up to 6% in the fruit, in addition to theobrim, theophylline, saponins and tannins. Due to this composition, guarana has been the target of studies in the form of supplementation for effects on sports performance. However, there are still disagreements about effective doses of this product, which end up generating doubts about the amount of guarana to be used. Thus, we have the hypothesis that supplementation with two different dosages of guarana may have dose response effects in an incremental test for fighters. Therefore our object was to analyze the dose response effect of a standard dosage of 300 mg and another individualized by body weight of 3 mg/kg of guarana in fighters performing an incremental test. Seven practitioners of Muay thai, male with age (28.1 6.25 years) and body weight (78.1 11.21 kg), with experience in the modality and without recent injuries were invited. An incremental until exhaustion test was performed specifically for fighters consisting of deferring kicks in a sandbag fixed to the wall. They were collected before and after the incremental test, contramovement jump test and cognitive test, to perform the analyzes at the end of the study. All signed the Informed Consent Form - TCLE. Significant responses were found in jump parameters (strength, height, speed and power) for the condition standardized by 300 mg. Regarding cognitive tests, there was a significant improvement for both conditions performed in the study, literature on positive effects in cognitive tasks. Therefore, we conclude that supplementation with guarana powder had a dose response effect on physical performance in the standardized condition and positive effects on both conditions on cognitive task.
