Resumo: |
In the literature dealing with the topic of economic growth and government spending, there is still no consensus on the role of these expenditures in the growth of the economy. Thus, this paper aims to analyze the relationship between public spending and economic growth in Brazilian states in the period between 2000 and 2014. To carry out this analysis, the correlation between state expenditures decomposed in functional categories as a proportion of total expenditures are used to explain the state's GDP growth rate. The method used was a panel data model with fixed effects. A non-linear model was used to capture the extent to which the level of government spending is efficient. In addition to a general panel for all Brazilian states, other panels by regions were also estimated, making it possible to assess where the effects of public spending are most productive. |
