Resumo: The nurseries soil preparation process is a very important stage of production. The choice of limestone used in liming will directly influence parameters and soil quality, water, natural food production and shrimp development. The objective of this work was to test a possible substitute for the limestone used in calcareous nursery, from calcareous algae to Lithothamnium sp, Algen® from Oceana, verifying the efficiency of Algen® in relation to dolomitic limestone. The study was carried out in a shrimp farm located in the municipality of Banabuiú-Ce - Fazenda Monólitos Aquicultura. For the monitoring and evaluation of the products used, soil (physical-chemical), water (physicochemical and plankton) and evaluation of the zootechnical performance of shrimp were carried out during two production periods from November 2017 to March 2018 and April to July 2018, in three nurseries of one ha. The results showed that the use of Algen ® showed similarity to those obtained with dolomitic limestone in both the water quality aspect and the zootechnical performance of the shrimp. However, shrimp had a better zootechnical performance when Algen® was used at the concentration of 500 kg / ha.
