The emergent issues related to sustainable development had their origins in the movements of preservation of the environment. With the evolution of the theme to create a sustainable base, the economic and social issues were added to the environment, the three items together form the tripod of sustainability. Education is the main source of awareness of society and propagation of sustainable development ideologies, and universities collaborate in this process by disseminating sustainable thinking and action, and they must themselves be models of sustainability, through their lines of action (teaching, research, extension and management). This study aimed to develop a method to analyze actions, aspects and strategies existing within the Federal High Education Institute, which contribute to the practice of Sustainable Development. It is, of qualitative nature, an exploratory and descriptive research, a case study that is complemented with the documentary research. The present work allowed to dimension the sustainable development within the FHEI, in its several fronts of action. After applying the proposed method, and despite the embryonic phase, the Institution's interest in evolving in sustainable issues was verified. There is an extensive way to be covered, since the concern with future generations permeates the physical limits of the university. |
