Resumo: This research addresses the evaluation of the Student Assistance Policy (SAP) of the Federal Institute of Ceará campus Camocim in the subsequent technical course in Maintenance and Support in Informatics, while institutional regulation of the National Student Assistance Program (NSAP), from the perspective of evaluation in depth (RODRIGUES, 2008). It assesses how the definitions of the NSAP are embodied in SAP, considering the concepts that guide both, in articulation with the contexts of national and local formulation, situated both by the normative aspect and by the perceptions of the subjects involved in the implementation. The objective is to evaluate the concepts of student assistance that guide the implementation of SAP at the Federal Institute of Ceará Campus Camocim and the implications of this process, in the view of students, teachers and administrative technicians. The approach is qualitative and the procedures adopted are: literature review, document analysis and interviews. The economic, political and social context that promotes SAP regulation is discussed, articulating this discussion with the analysis of the Program's content, that is, the conceptual basis that gives it theoretical and ideological support. SNAP was born from the expansion process of higher and professional education at the federal level, with a focus on social equity among undergraduate students, with a focus on those susceptible to dropout and retention, perspectives associated with the theory of human capital. At the local level, the Program was regulated based on the role of a group, incorporating the definitions of the national guidelines, with adaptations to meet institutional demands. In the speech of the subjects, the conception of student assistance as financial aid to students prevails, due to the socioeconomic condition of vulnerability. It was found that the implications of the implementation of SAP refer to the objective of preventing evasion and retention, both due to the incipient effectiveness of the actions, and due to factors beyond their reach, mainly due to the channeling of such intent to the individual plan, where students themselves are held responsible for such results.
