Resumo: Technological advances and humanities are presented as perinatal care strategy and family inclusion for increasing the survival rate of premature infants . The Kangaroo Method ( MC ) is the model adopted in Brazil as a public policy to reduce neonatal mortality. Premature birth and vulnerabilities can bring mothers moments of fear, sadness and insecurity about the care of newborns. Thus, the aim of this study was to analyze maternal self-efficacy before and after educational intervention through the scale Evaluation of Maternal Perceived Self-efficacy, following in primary care. intervention study in a reference maternity in Fortaleza with the participation of 43 binomials mother and son watched Unity Intermediaries Kangaroo Care (UCINCa). Were used for data collection, instruments mensurassem the self-efficacy of mothers in the 2nd, stage of the Kangaroo and the 15th day after discharge, by telephone, on returning to Primary. In addition, there was educational groups with the help of games like interaction and flow of learning strategy. The results showed association between sociodemographic and maternal self-efficacy among mothers of premature infants, especially among those in the reproductive phase, with high school living in the capital with his companions and family income less than or equal to one (1) minimum wage. Health education through the use of educational games brought the discussion group feelings of guilt, loneliness and anguish reduced self-efficacy in the ducts of baby care related to breastfeeding, warning signs and bath, but also motivation and overcoming being revealed an increase in self-efficacy after educational intervention. The study identified the reduction of the use of kangaroo position in the home for lack of kangaroo pouch and, in addition, only 60.5% of mothers continued exclusive breastfeeding. Although some sociodemographic factors can interfere with maternal self-efficacy, it appears to be indispensable involvement of the healthcare team focusing on health education for discharge from hospital and subsequent environmental monitoring in primary care, so that this relationship effectively promote maternal self-efficacy in the care of newborn. As well as the difficulties presented by the mothers and the increase in maternal self-efficacy revealed after educational intervention study shows that the quality of the indicators of assistance to the binomial could have been more effective if 60.5% of the mothers had received support for care the baby by the family health team in their homes.
